Directed by Lucio Fulci

Lucio Fulci created one of his great masterpieces of horror in 1981, a film that would forever secure him a place among the creators of cinematic terror. Once again, he combined the graphic violence typical of his films with melancholic and dark, in this case almost fairytale-like, elements, transporting the viewer to a world where an often bloody reality and a dark fantasy intertwine… It is a world from which there seems to be no escape, even for the director's numerous loyal fans… thankfully.

At the heart of this edition of the film is the 260-page tenebrarum "booklet" by Martin Beine, which, in addition to offering a comprehensive analysis of the film, is pioneering work, particularly, but by no means exclusively, for German-speaking audiences. It does this by including Fulci's often criminally neglected early work in the discussion, thus enabling a better understanding of the rich and multifaceted oeuvre of this director and broadening the often limited view of the work of a man who has all too often been reduced to the explicit depictions of violence in his films. The booklet, with its film-book character, is a visual feast thanks to its lavish illustrations, which immerse the reader visually in the world of Lucio Fulci.
