In a snowstorm, Paul Sheldon, the best-selling author of the popular Misery novel series, loses control of his car and crashes. Former nurse Annie Wilkes comes to the aid of the seriously injured man and promptly decides to nurse him back to health in her remote house. Out of gratitude, Paul lets his savior, who calls herself his biggest fan, read the manuscript of his new novel. However, when Annie learns of the death of her beloved protagonist and realizes that this is supposed to conclude the book series, her maternal concern turns into fanatical rage.
