In the heart of Helsinki, a small Japanese café sits quietly, waiting for customers. Run by the warm and optimistic Sachie, the diner attracts a handful of unlikely visitors, including fellow Japanese expatriates searching for connection far from home and Tommy, an eccentric Finnish otaku whose love of Japanese culture makes him one of the café's most devoted regulars. Together, they form an unexpected community, finding comfort in simple meals, shared conversations, and the small rituals of everyday life.
Shot on vibrant 35mm film and directed by Naoko Ogigami (Rent-a-Cat, Megane), Kamome Diner is a gentle and deeply charming celebration of friendship, food, and belonging. Filled with understated humour, memorable characters, and beautifully observed moments, this beloved modern cult classic invites audiences to slow down and savour life's simple pleasures.
