San Francisco filmmakers Jim and Artie Mitchell were among the key figures bringing counterculture filmmaking to American cinema during the 1970s. Working through their creative collective Cinema 7, the Mitchell Brothers and their collaborators produced numerous independent features and short films that pushed stylistic and thematic boundaries of the era.

The Mitchell Brothers Film Group now presents restored editions of their work on Blu-ray and 4K UHD, many of them appearing on disc for the first time.

In BEHIND THE GREEN DOOR, Gloria Saunders arrives at a quiet bayside hotel expecting a peaceful evening. Her plans are abruptly interrupted when she is taken to a mysterious private club where she becomes the focus of an elaborate and unusual stage performance. As events unfold behind the club’s mysterious green door, Gloria is drawn into a surreal experience where reality and illusion begin to blur.

Originally released in 1972, the film became a major underground sensation and helped launch the career of its leading star, Marilyn Chambers (Rabid). With appearances by Johnnie Keyes (SexWorld), George McDonald (Powder Burns), NFL star Ben Davidson (The Black Six), and several figures from San Francisco’s counterculture scene, BEHIND THE GREEN DOOR developed a lasting cult reputation.

Now newly restored from its original 16mm camera elements, this influential independent production arrives on 4K UHD and Blu-ray from the Mitchell Brothers Film Group, accompanied by a wide selection of special features and a bonus CD featuring the film’s original soundtrack.
