In a future in which the earth is covered by water, humanity is fighting for survival in atoll cities. Some believe in a mystical place called "Dryland". The evil Deacon (Dennis Hopper) and his gang tyrannize the last survivors. Helen and her foster child Enola escape from him with the help of the taciturn Mariner (Kevin Costner). He must protect her at all costs, because little Enola holds the secret to humanity's survival.


Kevin Costner plays the lead role in the furious science fiction adventure, which was the most expensive film in Hollywood at the time. This edition contains the blockbuster in the theatrical version edited by Costner and a fully dubbed extended version that comes closest to the vision of director Kevin Reynolds.
