Director Bryan Bertino has already demonstrated an impressive sense for intense thrills with the home invasion classic THE STRANGERS. In his current masterpiece THE DARK AND THE WICKED, he cranks up the tension to the limit again, creating one of the most atmospheric, eerie and impressive horror films of recent years. Co-produced by the makers of OLDBOY and featuring an excellent cast including Xander Berkeley (THE WALKING DEAD, CANDYMAN, TERMINATOR 2) and Marin Ireland (THE EMPTY MAN), this nihilistic nightmare is reminiscent of genre highlights such as CONJURING and HEREDITARY. The end is near. Siblings Louise (Marin Ireland) and Michael Straker (Michael J. Abbott Jr.) are aware of this when they visit their terminally ill father David (Michael Zagst) for what is probably the last time on their parents' farm in the deserted hinterland. The two want to help their mentally unstable mother Virginia (Julie Oliver-Touchstone). But strange things start happening soon after their arrival. While the mother becomes more and more unpredictable, the children try to keep their nerve. Is it just the shocking certainty of the inevitable or is something unspeakably evil lurking in the darkness of the night?
