One corner ding on the slipcover

In 1950, on the fictional Pacific Northwest island of San Piedro, a local commercial fisherman named Carl Heine Jr. is found dead in the sea under mysterious circumstances. Another fisherman and WWII veteran, Kazuo Miyamoto (Japanese-American), is charged with his murder. As the quiet community becomes consumed by racial tension and old land disputes stemming from the wartime internment of Japanese-Americans, local newspaper editor and war vet Ishmael Chambers (Ethan Hawke) covers the trial—while reckoning with his own past romance with Kazuo's wife, Hatsue, and his father's legacy of standing up against prejudice.
