Taxidermia
Chasm Films is a label dedicated to curating a catalogue of under-seen, under-appreciated and underground world genre cinema.
In Hungary during World War II, Vendel Morosgoványi (Csaba Czene) is stationed at an isolated military outpost, where his bizarre and obsessive inner world begins to take shape. Decades later, his illegitimate child Kálmán Balatony (Gergely Trócsányi) becomes a professional competitive eater who dreams of achieving fame and recognition. Instead, he grows old and immobile, cared for by his son Lajoska Balatony (Marc Bischoff), a taxidermist determined to create a lasting artistic legacy before his death.
Written and directed by acclaimed Hungarian filmmaker György Pálfi, Taxidermia blends body horror, dark comedy and striking visual design to paint a surreal portrait of Hungary from the 1940s to the twenty-first century.
