Special Forces Col. James Braddock (Norris) knows all too well that American soldiers are secretly imprisoned in Vietnamese POW camps: He spent 10 years in a brutal labor camp long after the war's end, until he led his men in a daring escape to freedom. Home at last, Braddock reluctantly agrees to join a fact-finding mission in Saigon to question the Vietnamese about other MIAs. Disgusted by the mealy-mouthed denials of the sadistic General Tran (James Hong), Braddock enlists the aid of State Department official Ann Fitzgerald (Lenore Kasdorf) and slips away to find out the real facts.
Discovering the location of an MIA prison camp, Braddock escapes to Bangkok, where his old Army buddy, Tuck (M. Emmet Walsh), now a smuggler, equips him with enough weapons for a one-man army. In an explosive conclusion, Braddock blasts his way back into Vietnam. The only question is, can he fight his way back out?
