The tranquil island of Erin Island off the Irish coast offers the classic view of the Irish owl. While the village policeman drunkenly starts his shift in the morning, the fishermen pull in their nets and catch pots to drink their way through the night in the local pub. A routine coastal life, in other words, which would hardly be remarkable were it not for the fact that a meteor crashed into the sea the previous night, carrying an exceedingly slimy, interstellar greeting. While strange things are happening: fishermen are disappearing without a trace, dead and torn whales are washing up on the shore in droves, and difficult to identify objects are depositing themselves in the catch pots, the notoriously drunken lawman Ciaran O'Shea (Richard Coyle) welcomes his hard-working mainland colleague Lisa Nolan (Ruth Bradley) back for her vacation shift. In his delirium, he initially barely notices the decline in local boredom, while his overzealous colleague has no time for the more tranquil things. As the island's population is gradually decimated, a fundamental question soon arises: Why are village drunkards like the fisherman Paddy (Lalor Roddy) spared?
