Detroit in the near future: After the privatization of the police force, crime fighting is in the hands of the mega-corporation OCP, which wants to radically combat crime in the city with combat robots. When police officer Alex Murphy (Peter Weller) is declared clinically dead after a failed mission, the corporation uses Murphy's intact brain to create a massive police cyborg: RoboCop - half human, half machine - is supposed to ensure law and order on the streets.
