Seeking refuge after suffering a tragic loss, young Harper (Jessie Buckley) rents a large and beautiful house in the English countryside on the edge of Cotson in Leicestershire. Upon arrival, she is greeted by the owner of the estate, a jovial, middle-aged English squire with a quick wit who shows her around the property. After the first moments of illusory well-being, Harper realizes that serenity will be a hard and slow conquest and the images of the violent argument with her husband, which served as a prologue to the tragedy, begin to haunt her. An exploration of the countryside near the estate will reveal the true color of Harper's inner landscape and, at the same time, the ambiguous nature of Cotson and its inhabitants.
